A Request of ALL Coaches in Section V Boys' Basketball
Each year, the boys' basketball tournament committee asks every coach to submit 2 items to us. We need a roster for each team, and we need a photograph. In 2010, we are going to ask you to do something different for us. We are going to ask you to get these 2 items to us by December 15, 2010.
My purpose in writing to you today is to get the ball rolling, and get you thinking about this responsibility. All coaches in Section V are asked to complete this for us. It's what keeps Section V the best section in the state. This year we are going to call you out and ask for your help in getting this done by our established deadline.
Coaches, A.D.'s, Booster Clubs and Parents: Feel free to work with your coaches and help us get this done for the players. There will be a roster form for 2010-2011 online at or near the end of October 2010. It's actually going to be simplified for 2010-2011. There will be instructions for saving and sharing that roster form with me through the season.
We need a digital photograph of EVERY team. It is my belief that this photo can be taken and sent to me for the committee's use by the first home game of the season. I am going to discuss these two concerns in the bullet points below.
Coaches, A.D.'s, Booster Clubs and Parents:
Fill out the roster form when your team is selected following preseason tryouts. Save it to your computer and send it to me as an email attachment. If the coach does not know how to make this happen, a colleague, parent, or player can help out. I would always prefer to receive these from a verifiable email address of a coach.
AT YOUR FIRST HOME GAME: Please make arrangements to take a digital photograph of not only your team, but the visiting team as well. Make it a ceremonial moment on the foul lines, or somewhere in your building with an appropriate background, not of the stands full of people. Send both photographs to me. I will post them. I would think that I would have 2 photos of each team by December 15, 2010 and you will be done with that obligation to the committee. Ask an Assistant, Parent, Colleague, or interested Student to help out.
When changes happen in your lineups, or when you get your professional photograph done, you can forward those things to me, and I can easily make the replacements for you if you wish. All photos will be sized to 640 (wide) x 480 (tall) online. Most digital cameras have this setting.
Rosters are used for the handbook, the committee, your programs, college recruiters, and scouting. The photos are necessary for the tournament programs should your team work hard and make it to the semi-finals. Each year we are missing at least one that we need at that moment when you win your quarterfinal game, and we do not like to have to call coaches for a roster or a photo in late February seeking something that was requested in December.
Finally, once your photos and rosters are submitted, there will be a 24-hour turnaround to see yours posted on the website. If you do not see a verification date with your roster and photo, please contact me, and ask why. I am very good at getting this done for you. If I make an error, or a file gets corrupted (as one did last year), let me know that also.
