"Player of the Week"

THE BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS GETS UNDERWAY TODAY AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH FEBRUARY.
The selection of Basketball Players of the Week for both boys and girls in Section V gets under way today and will continue through February. The program will be sponsored for the third year by Birds Eye Foods whose headquarters are based in Rochester. The selection of the players each week will be made by coaches, former coaches, and athletic directors in association with active coaches who offer their counsel. Players who are chosen receive certificates suitable for framing.

Week 1 - Week of: November 28 to December 1, 2008

FIRST-WEEK BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ALLEGANY COUNTY: No Nominations.

CITY CATHOLIC: Nate Dukes of Freddie Thomas. Dukes had 23 points, five steals and five assists in a loss to Elmira Southside in the first round of the Gates-Chili Tip Off Tournament. He had 14 points in a loss to Charlotte in the conciliation game.

FINGER LAKES EAST: No Nominations.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Ryan Schenck of Dundee. A 6-foot-1 senior forward, Schenck helped the Scots win their inaugural Tip Off tournament. In the opening round Dundee defeated Hammondsport 63-31 and in the championship game squeezed past Marcus Whitman 50-45 in overtime. Schenck totaled 23 points and 21 rebounds for the tournament and was named MVP.

GENESEE: No Nominations.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Mike Nowatzki of Wayland-Cohocton. Nowatzki, a 5-foot-7 senior guard, had 18 points and seven rebounds against Canisteo-Greenwood and 14 points and eight rebounds against Attica in leading Wayland-Cohocton to the championship of the Warsaw Tournament.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Travis Tones of Letchworth. Tones, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, had 13 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals against Sir Winston Churchill and 24 points, seven rebounds and three steals against East Rochester in leading Letchworth to the tournament championship. He was named MVP.

MONROE COUNTY I: Chad Dillard of Gates-Chili. Dillard, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, scored 24 points against Elmira and 27 points against Charlotte to earn MVP honors at the Gate-Chili Tip Off Tournament.

MONROE COUNTY II: Devin Turner of Greece Olympia. Turner scored 24 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, to help Olympia win its season opener.

MONROE COUNTY III: Mark Scarlata of Greece Odyssey. Scarlata, a 5-foot-7 junior guard, scored 10 points in a win over Williamson and 12 points in a loss against Penn Yan in the Williamson Tip Off Tournament.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: No Nominations.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Nick Smith of Arkport. Smith was the Allegany IAABO Tournament MVP scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the championship game.

WAYNE COUNTY: No Nominations.

FIRST BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V GIRLS' BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY I: Patty Capwell of Canaseraga. A senior guard, Capwell scored 20 points and had10 steals against Campbell-Savona in the Bath Tip Off Tournament. She was voted MVP as Canaseraga defeated Bath and Campbell to win the championship.

ALLEGANY COUNTY II: Kristen Moose of Canaseraga. A junior guard, Moose recorded a double double against Bath-Haverling with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Against Campbell-Savona she had 10 points and eight assists. She was named to the all-tournament team.

FINGER LAKES EAST: Kensey Keller of Palmyra-Macedon. A junior guard, Keller had 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals in 44-38 win over Victor. She was two-for-two from three-point range and four-for-four from the foul line.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Jahna Humphrey of Harley-Allendale-Columbia. A sophomore guard/forward, Humphrey had 36 Points and 27 rebounds in a win and a loss to open the season.

GENESEE: No Nominations.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY: No Nominations.

MONROE COUNTY: Brittany Mazurkiewicz of Batavia. Mazurkiewicz, a 5-foot-5 senior guard, had 35 points, 11 steals and four assists against Alexander in the first game of the Attica Tournament. Batavia went on to win the tournament and Mazurkiewicz was named MVP.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: No Nominations.

ROCHESTER LEAGUE: No Nominations.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Jessica Button of Bradford. Button, a 5-foot-6 senior guard, had 14 points, 15 rebounds, nine steals and four assists in a win and a loss last week. She was named to the Bradford Tournament All-Tournament Team.

WAYNE COUNTY: Shannon McGinnis of Gananda. McGinnis, a sophomore guard/forward, averaged 18 points and six steals while earning the MVP award in the York Tip Off Tournament.

Week 2 - Week of: December 2 to December 8, 2008

SECOND BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ALLEGANY COUNTY: No Nominations.

CITY CATHOLIC: Eric Miles of Wilson Magnet. Miles, a 6-foot senior guard, had 23 points, and six steals in Wilson’s 64-55 win over Charlotte.. He then had a quad-double … 10 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals in a 59-44 win over Gates-Chili.

FINGER LAKES EAST: Steve Palmer and Collin Camp of Wayne. Palmer, a 6-foot-2 guard/forward, had 15 points and eight rebounds in a 76-61 win over Mynderse in the Wayne Tournament. Then he had 9 points and 10 rebounds in a 64-51 championship win over Canandaigua. Camp, a 6-foot senior guard, had 16 points, five assists and five steals against Mynderse and 11 points, six assists and five rebounds against Canandaigua. Both were named to the All-Tournament team and Camp was named MVP.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Jonny Benjamin of Harley-Allendale-Columbia. A 6-foot-1 senior guard, Benjamin had 18 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and five assists as HAC defeated Red Jacket 52-41. In a 76-62 loss to Caledonia-Mumford, he had 30 points, five rebounds and five assists.

GENESEE: No Nominations.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Dave Nasradinaj of Caledonia-Mumford. Nasradinaj, a senior guard, had 24 points and four rebounds in a win over Wheatland-Chili and 14 points and six rebounds in a win over Harley-Allendale-Columbia.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Eric Valentino of York. Valentino, a senior guard, had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Hornell and 18 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Leroy.

MONROE COUNTY I: Kenny Henry of Hilton. Henry, a 6-foot-4 forward/center, scored 10 points in a win over Brockport, 13 points in a win over Spencerport and 20 points, along with nine rebounds and five blocked shots in a win over Brighton in the championship game of the Spencerport CVC Tournament. He was name MVP.

MONROE COUNTY II: RJ Kalb of Greece-Athena. Kalb, a 6-foot-6 senior forward/center scored 12 points and collected 10 rebounds in a win over Penfield and scored 12 points in a win over Greece-Arcadia to earn MVP honors of the Greece Tip-Off Tournament.

MONROE COUNTY III: Lee Lomanzo and Tyler Brooks of Victor. Lomanzo and Brooks … Victor’s backcourt … combined for 47 points, 12 steals and 15 assists in wins over Wayne and Honeoye Falls-Lima to capture their home tip-off tournament.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: Alex Baron of Aquinas. Sophomore forward, Baron, scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Aquinas over Canisius at the Catarac Classic in Niagara Falls.

STEUBEN COUNTY: No Nominations.

WAYNE COUNTY: Aron Bell of Lyons. Bell, a junior guard, had 14 points, including two three-pointers in a win over North Rose-Wolcott; 17 points, including two three-pointers in a loss to Geneva; and 23 points, including three three-pointers and six-for-six from the foul line in a win over Waterloo. He was named to the All-Tournament Team in the Waterloo Tournament.

SECOND BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY I: Marilynn Schoen of Whitesville. A sophomore post player, Schoen scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three assists and three steals in just 15 minutes of play in a win over Scio.

ALLEGANY COUNTY II: Mercedes Mosher of Andover. A senior forward/center, Mosher had a double-double in each of Andover’s three games last week. She averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds per game in a win against class C Addison and two losses to Class DD Genesee Valley and Jasper-Troupsburg.

FINGER LAKES EAST: Alyssa Fenyn of Newark. A senior guard/forward, Fenyn had 22 points and nine rebounds against Mercy; 29 points and 13 rebounds against Queensbury; and 18 points and 10 rebounds against Shenendehowa.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Jenn Hudson of Bloomfield. A senior forward, Hudson accumulated 73 points, 22 steals, 11 assists and 23 rebounds over three games last week, including 42 points and 11 steals in a win over south Seneca.

GENESEE I: Julie Brooks of Holley. A sophomore forward, Brooks hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to send her team’s first game into overtime. Holly won it 39-32 for its first win in two years. Brooks finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds..

GENESEE II: Molly Burgess of Lyndonville. A junior forward, Burgess scored 40 points in the two games of the Barker Tournament. She had 10 points and nine rebounds in her team’s victory over the host Barker Red Raiders. She was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Leslie Havens of Wayland-Cohocton and Margaret Infantino of Dansville. Havens, a senior guard/forward, averaged 22 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals in victories over Geneseo and Honeoye Falls-Lima. Her week’s accomplishments also included the game winning shot in the closing seconds against Honeoye Falls. Infantino, a senior guard/forward, had 22 points and 12 rebounds against Wellsville, 14 points and 11 rebounds against Attica and 18 points and nine rebounds against “Batavia.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Amie Brooks of Pavilion. Brooks, a junior guard, scored 22 points, had eight assists and made seven steals in a win over Letchworth.

MONROE COUNTY I: Allyson DiMagno of Fairport. DiMagno, a junior forward, scored 45 points and grabbed 23 rebounds over two games in the Arcadia Tournament and was named MVP.

MONROE COUNTY II: Nicole Lawson of Churchville-Chili. Lawson, a sophomore guard, scored a career-high 32 points against Bryon-Bergen and finished the week recording 48 points, 24 rebounds and 14 steals in two victories.

MONROE COUNTY III: Brenna Bauer of Brighton. Bauer, a senior guard, scored a career-high 29 points against Brockport, finishing the week with 60 points in three games including seven three-pointers. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Katie Sweeting Tournament.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: Mary Kate Tierney of Mercy. Tierney, a 5-foot-11 junior guard/forward, averaged 15 points and 14 rebounds over two games … one a close loss to Newark and the other a win over Greece Olympia.

ROCHESTER LEAGUE: Shaniece Brown of School of the Arts. Brown, a 5-foot-3 sophomore point guard, had career highs in points and steals with 29 and 14 in a win against Monroe. She also had four rebounds.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Katie Wyant of Jasper-Troupsburg. Wyant, a 5-foot-4 senior guard, had 18 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in a 51-24 win over Canaseraga.

WAYNE COUNTY: Katie DeMay of North Rose Wolcott. DeMay, a senior guard, averaged 22 points, four assists and three rebounds over three games last week.

Week 1 - Week of: December 9, 2009 to December 15, 2008

THIRD BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY: Matt Dean of Fillmore. Dean, a 6-foot-1 sophomore forward, scored 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 77-72 victory over Belfast. He also held Belfast’s top player in check in leading Fillmore to its third victory without a defeat.

CITY CATHOLIC: William Mason of Monroe. Masons, a 6-foot-i senior forward, scored 24 points in a victory over Jefferson.

FINGER LAKES EAST: Cal Andrews of Marcus Whitman. Andrews, a 6-foot sophomore guard scored 20 points with four assists and five rebounds in a win over Mynderse. He also had 22 points with three steals in a loss to Palmyra-Macedon.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Zach Alsheimer of South Seneca. A 6-foot junior forward, Alsheimer lead the Falcons to an overtime win over DeSales. He had 26 points and 16 rebounds.

GENESEE I: Tate Westermeier of Attica. A 6-foot junior guard, Westermeier scored 20 points and had five assists in a comeback win over Pembroke. Then, against Byron-Bergen, he led the Blue Devils back from a 16-point deficit to a 54-47 win. He had 19 points and five rebounds in this game.

GENESEE II: Kevin Francis of Notre Dame-Batavia. A 6-foot senior guard, Francis scored 22 points with six assists and four steals in a 92-36 win over Lyndonville and then scored 28 points (three-for-three on three-point shots) with eight assists and nine steals in a 80-42 victory over Kendall.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Matt Girolmo of Livonia. Girolmo, a senior forward, had 19 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots in a win over Letchworth. He also had 10 points and six rebounds in a win over Dansville.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Travis Tones of Letchworth. Tones, a senior guard, had 30 points, eight rebounds and three steals in a loss to Livonia. Then he had 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a win over Caledonia-Mumford.

MONROE COUNTY I: Mike Glenn of Fairport. Glenn, a 6-foot-4 senior guard, scored 23 points in a win over Edison and collected 29 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four blocks in a win over Utica Proctor.

MONROE COUNTY II: Jordan Heath of Irondequoit. Heath, a 6-foot-8 senior center collected 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots in a win over Eastridge and scored 18 points in a win over Webster Thomas.

MONROE COUNTY III: Pat O’Keefe of Pittsford Sutherland. A 6-foot senior guard, O’Keefe scored 14 points in a win over Jefferson, 12 points in a win over Aquinas and 17 points in a win over Brighton.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: Dwayne Smith of Aquinas. A senior point guard, Smith, had 12 points, four steals and five assists in 57-55 loss to Pittsford Sutherland. He then had 15 points, five assists and five steals in a 63-49 win over Pittsford Mendon.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Garrett Parker of Prattsburgh. A 6-foot-4 junior guard/forward, Parker, had 21 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in the Vikings win over Canisteo-Greenwood.

WAYNE COUNTY: Sal Iannello of Marion. Iannello, a 6-foot senior guard, hit two free throws to force overtime against Lyons. Then he scored the final six points for his team in overtime to help his team win by one point. Overall, he had 33 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

THIRD BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY I: Kristen Moose of Canaseraga. A junior guard, Moose Averaged 19 points, seven rebounds and five steals in wins over Boliver-Richburg and Genesee Valley.

ALLEGANY COUNTY II: Nichole Meehan of Whitesville. A sophomore post player, Meehan, playing only half the game against Andover, had her first double, double…10 points and 10 rebounds. She also had five blocked shots, two assists and a steal.

FINGER LAKES EAST: Marissa Bunce and Alyssa Fenyn of Newark. A senior guard, Bunce reached 1,000 points for her career against Midlakes, scoring 19 points in the game. Senior guard/forward Fenyn reached the 2,000 points mark for her career with 31 points against Midlakes. She also had 28 points in a win over Canandaigua.

FINGER LAKES WEST: No Nominations.

GENESEE I: Hillary Bates of Oakfield. A senior point guard, Bates led a young Oakfield team to league victories over Byron-Bergen and Holley. She averaged eight points, five assists and five steals in those games.

GENESEE II: Trisha Pike of Notre Dame-Batavia. A junior point guard, Pike scored 27 points in her team’s victories over Lyndonville and Kendall. She also led the team in rebounds, assists and steals.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Ashley Amidon of Dansville. Amidon, a senior forward, had 12 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots in a win over LeRoy. She also had 12 points … including the game winning shot with 2.5 seconds left … along with nine rebounds against Livonia.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Marcy Manning of Avon. Manning, a senior center, had 11 point, 17 rebounds, five steals and five blocked shots in a win over Livonia. She also had 15 points, 20 rebounds and five blocked shots in a win over York.

MONROE COUNTY I: Lindsay Kendall of Gates-Chili. Kendall, a senior forward, scored 58 points last week in two wins. Included was the 1,000th point of her career.

MONROE COUNTY II: Abby Kmiecinski of Webster Thomas. Kmiecinski, a senior guard/forward, scored 40 points in a win and a loss last week.

MONROE COUNTY III: Jenee Vanderstyne of Victor. Vanderstyne, a senior guard and captain, had 24 points, 15 steals, and six assists in two games

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: No Nominations.

ROCHESTER LEAGUE: Corinne Wellington of Wilson. Wellington, a 6-foot-2 senior center scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds while blocking two shots in a win over Marshall helping Wilson reach 3-0.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Raegan Ryan of Canisteo-Greenwood. Ryan, a 5-foot-5 sophomore point guard, had 28 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Jasper-Troupsburg. Then she had 22 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Prattsburgh.

WAYNE COUNTY: Brittani Bove of Marion. Bove, a sophomore guard, averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals during two wins last week.

Week 4 - Week of: December 16, 2009 to December 22, 2008

FOURTH BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY I: Sam Stephens of Friendship. Stephens, a forward, scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds in his first game of the year, a 43-41 loss to Canasaraga.

ALLEGANY COUNTY II: Tom Hennessy of Wellsville. Hennessy, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, scored 23 points and had six steals in his team’s win over Wayland-Cohocton and he scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in ther defeat of Genesee Valley.

CITY CATHOLIC: No Nominations.

FINGER LAKES EAST: No Nominations.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Austin White of Honeoye. A 6-foot-1 senior guard/forward, White scored 18 points in a win over Romulus. The cornerstone of Honeoye’s defense, White had two steals and two blocks in the fourth quarter come-from-behind rally.

GENESEE: No Nominations.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Bob Blodgett of Honeoye Falls-Lima. Blodgett, a 6-foot-5 sophomore center, had 21 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots in a win over School of the Arts.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Ricky Ryan of Warsaw. Ryan, a 6-foot-4 senior center, had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots against York.

MONROE COUNTY I: Greg Witkowski of Webster Schroeder. Witkowski, a 6-foot-3 senior forward, scored 16 points in a win over Spencerport.

MONROE COUNTY II: Alec Robertson of Webster Thomas. Robertson, a 6-foot-3 junior forward collected 15 points, including five in the fourth quarter, in a win over Brockport.

MONROE COUNTY III: Glenn Taggart of Eastridge. A 6-foot-1 junior guard, Taggart scored 14 points, including six of nine free throws in the fourth quarter, in a win over Brighton.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: Tyler Patterson of Aquinas. A 6-foot senior guard, Patterson, scored 18 points … including the game winning three at the buzzer … and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 61-59 win over Bishop Kearney. He then scored 16 points and had four blocked shots in a 61-54 win over rival McQuaid.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Ryan Caron of Prattsburgh. A 6-foot-2 senior forward, Caron scored 48 points with 13 rebounds and seven steals in a win over Bradford and a loss to Notre Dame-Batavia.

WAYNE COUNTY: Marshall Cowey of East Rochester. Cowey, a 6-foot-3 senior center, scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a win over North Rose-Wolcott

FOURTH BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY I: Desi Lyman of Genesee Valley. A 5-foot-10 junior forward, Lyman had two double-doubles last week. She scored 28 points with 22 rebounds against Scio and scored 19 points with 18 rebounds against Cuba-Rushford.

ALLEGANY COUNTY II: Brooke Jackson of Andover. A 5-foot-9 senior forward, Jackson averaged 13 points and eight rebounds in two losses against Fillmore and Canaseraga.

FINGER LAKES EAST: No Nominations.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Sarah Hart of Bloomfield. A 5-foot-8 junior guard, Hart has led her team to a 6-1 record. Last week she had 51 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists in wins over Naples and Romulus.

GENESEE: McKenzie Bezon of Elba. An eighth grade guard, Bezon scored 18 points to lead Elba to a 54-51 come back victory over Notre Dame-Batavia. She had four three-points in the game that saw Notre Dame lose its first game of the season.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Jessica Petruchik of Honeoye Falls-Lima. Petruchik, a 5-foot-10 senior forward/guard, scored 36 points and had 21 rebounds in three games at the KSA Disney Tournament and was named MVP in the bracket her team was in.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Cortney Chamberlain of Perry. Chamberlain, a 5-foot-10 junior guard/forward, had a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds in a win over LeRoy.

MONROE COUNTY I: Bernadette Davis of Rush-Henrietta. Davis, a 5-foot-10 senior forward, scored 19 points, eight steals and six rebounds in a win.

MONROE COUNTY II: Sarah Alwardt of Greece Athena. Alwardt, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, scored 19 points and had eight assists in a win.

MONROE COUNTY III: Leanna Brooks of Brighton. Brooks, a 5-foot-8 sophomore forward, had 12 points, and 11 rebounds in her team’s first victory of the season.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: No Nominations.

ROCHESTER LEAGUE: Ruby Cibulka of School of the Arts. Cibulka, a 5-foot-10 sophomore forward, had 17 points and eight rebounds in her team’s win over Marshall to improve to 5-1.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Jordana Schoolcraft of Prattsburg. Schoolcraft, a senior center, averaged 12 points and 12 rebounds in three games last week. This included a 17-point, 18-rebound day in a six-point win over Lima Christian. In the three-game span, Schoolcraft went 19 of 21 from the free throw line.

MONROE COUNTY I: Jansen Jones of Penfield. Jones, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, scored 18 points in a one-point loss to Victor; 17 points in a win over Spencerport; and 17 points with six rebounds, six assists and five steals in a win over Livonia..

MONROE COUNTY II: O’Shae Imes of Brockport. Imes had 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals in a win over Churchville-Chili and 24 points, 18 rebounds and six steals in a loss to Franklin.

MONROE COUNTY III: Lee Lomenzo of Victor. A 6-foot senior guard, Lomenzo amassed 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists and six steals in wins over Penfield and Hilton.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Brandon Smith - 6' Senior Forward - scored 18 pts on 9 for 11 shooting vs Avoca in the Prattsburgh Xmas Tourney. Also made the All tournament team.

WAYNE COUNTY: Collin Craft of Clyde-Savannah. Craft, a 6-foot-1 junior forward, scored 13 points including two threes in a win over Lyons.

FIFTH BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY: Patty Capwell and Kristen Moose of Canaseraga. A 5-foot-6 senior guard, Capwell had 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 55-41 win over Wellsville in the Coaches Versus Cancer Tournament at Keshequa. She also had 14 points in a 62-41 win over Andover.

Moose, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists against Wellsville and 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists against Andover

GENESEE: Nicole Sharick of Pembroke. A senior guard, Sharick scored five of her nine points against Oakfield to help Pembroke win in overtime. She also scored 20 points and had six rebounds in her team’s victory over Holley.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Cassie Pope of Livonia. Pope, a freshman center, recorded her first double double of her career. She finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to Pembroke.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Kelly Proper of Letchworth. Proper, a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard/forward, scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in a victory over Thomas Edison of Elmira Heights and had 10 points against Canisteo-Greenwood in the Christmas Classic at Alfred State. She was named to the All-Tournament Team.

MONROE COUNTY I: No Nominations.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: Lauren Clark of Lima Christian. A 5-foot-9 freshman guard, Clark had 29 points in her team’s opening win against Naples in the DeSales Christmas Classic. She also had 14 rebounds. She then had 19 points … 10 in the fourth quarter … in a 37-31 win over DeSales.

ROCHESTER LEAGUE: Briana Seda of Marshall. Seda, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, scored 29 points, grabbed five rebonds and made three steals in a win over Jefferson.

Week 6 - Week of: December 31 to January 5, 2009

SIXTH BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY: Brad Stevens of Whitesville. Stephens, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, was named MVP of the Allegany Counselor Classic. He had 10 points, six rebounds, five steals and five assists in a first round win over Bolivar-Richburg. Then he scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the championship game win over Fillmore.

CITY CATHOLIC: Clarence Johnson of Franklin and Terrance Finley of Freddie Thomas. Johnson, a 5-foot-7 senior point guard, had 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists against Spencerport and 24 points, five rebounds and six assists against Brockport in the Brockport Tournament. Finley, a 6-foot senior guard, rejoined the starting line up against Charlotte, having missed the first seven games of the season. He had 20 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots to help the Titans defeat the Lakesiders.

FINGER LAKES EAST: No Nominations.

FINGER LAKES WEST: Jared Smith of Honeoye. The Bulldogs’ 6-foot-3 senior forward, had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a first round overtime win over undefeated Gananda and followed that up with another r21 points and eight rebounds in the championship game win over Romulus in the Honeoye Holiday Tournament. Smith also was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

GENESEE I: Noah Seward of Oakfield-Alabama. Seward, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds ina two-point loss to Marion and had 21 points and 12 rebounds in a consolation game victory over York. His play earned him All-Tournament honors.

GENESEE II: Erick VanWycke of Lyndonville. VanWycke, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, had 28 points and 11 rebounds and 13 points with 16 rebounds in losses to Lima Christian and Webster Christian.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Tyler Fenti of Honeoye Falls-Lima. Fenti, a 6-foot-1 junior guard had 34 points (with eight threes) and seven rebounds against Livonia; seven points and four rebounds against Pittsford Sutherland; and 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals against Greece Olympia.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Sean Mattle of Keshequa. Mattle, a 6-foot-3 sophomore forward, had 10 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots against Warsaw and 20 points, and 16 rebounds against Northstar in the Keshequa Tournament. He was named to the All Tournament Team.

MONROE COUNTY I: Dezerick Brooks of Rush-Henrietta. Brooks, a 6-foot-2 senior forward, scored 21 points, grabbed four rebounds and made three steals in a win over Edison. He also scored 15 points … including a key three-pointer in the final minute in a win over East.

MONROE COUNTY II: Jeremy Jackson of Irondequoit. Jackson, a 6-foot-3 senior forward, scored 12 points in a win over Greece Olympia and 18 points in a win over Pittsford Sutherland in the Irondequoit Tournament.

MONROE COUNTY III: Andrew Hoy of Batavia. A 5-foot-10, sophomore guard, Hoy scored 24 points in a win over Albion and 19 points against Batavia Notre Dame to earn MVP honors in the Batavia Holiday Tournament.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: Zach Putnam and Tyler Patterson of Aquinas. Putnam, a senior forward had 43 points and 41 rebounds to earn MVP honors in the Gates-Chili Tournament. He also recorded 12 assists and eight steals over the three games. Patterson, a senior guard, scored 14, 13 and 18 points in the three wins. He also averaged five assists and five steals and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Ricci Wendlandt of Hammondsport. Wendlandt scored 17 points against Red Jacket and 13 against Clyde-Savannah in the Red Jacket Christmas Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

WAYNE COUNTY: No Nominations.

SIXTH BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK*

ALLEGANY COUNTY I: Allison Richter of Fillmore. A 5-foot-4 senior guard, Richter scored a career high 20 points including three three-pointers. She also had four assists and four steals in a first round win in the Counselors Classic Tournament. She was also named to the All Tournament Team.


FINGER LAKES EAST: Jenni Robbins of Geneva and Ashley Zahn of Canandaigua. A 5-foot-3 senior guard had 55 points, 10 steals, and seven assists in wins over Waterloo and South Seneca and was named MVP of the Guardian Glass Tournament.

Zahn, a 5-foot-10 junior guard, had 25 points and five assists against Webster Schroeder; 27 points and seven assists against Niagara Falls; and 17 points and four assists against Wilson.

FINGER LAKES WEST: No nominations.

GENESEE I: Mary Cocking of Byron-Bergen. A senior forward, Cocking had 20 points and 17 rebounds in her team’s victory over Greece Odyssey in the Bergen Christmas Tournament. She added 14 points in their loss to Notre Dame Batavia in the finals.

GENESEE II: Nichole Hart of Notre Dame Batavia. A junior guard, Hart scored 44 points in her team’s victories over LeRoy and Byron-Bergen. She was named the MVP of the Bergen Christmas Tournament.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY I: Alyssa Englert of Wayland-Cohocton. Englert, a 5-foot-9 junior guard, averaged 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals to help lead th Lady Eagles to the championship of the Wayland Lions Club Tournament … defeating Perry and Nazareth.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY II: Morgan Howe of Keshequa. Howe, a 6-foot sophomore center, became the Francis “Pete” DiAngelo Most Valuable Player by scoring 26 points, grabbing 22 rebounds and making four steals in wins over Warsaw and Canaseraga.

MONROE COUNTY I: Lindsay Kendall of Gates-Chili. Kendall, a 5-foot-9 senior forward, scored 56 points and earned the MVP Award in the Gates-Chili Tournament.

MONROE COUNTY II: Keri Soppe of Irondequoit. Soppe, a 5-foot-8, sophomore guard, had 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in a win over Brighton.


MONROE COUNTY III: Kourtney Damann of Greece Odyssey. Damann, a 6-foot senior forward, scored a career-high and a school record 31 points in a win over Leroy. She also had eight boards, four steals and two blocked shots and was named to the Bergen Christmas All Tournament Team.

PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: No Nominations.

ROCHESTER LEAGUE: Danielle Tucker of East. Tucker, a 5-foot-8 senior forward, averaged 23 points, 19 rebounds and six blocked shots over two wins at the Livonia Tournament.

STEUBEN COUNTY: Morgan Penner of Prattsburg and Chloe Makarick of Hammondsport. Penner, a 5-foot-2 junior guard, sank five three-pointers in scoring 19 points in helping her team to a win. She also pulled down six boards and had two steals. Makarick, a 5-foot-8, senior forward, averaged 12 points and eight rebounds in winning Tournament MVP at the Hammondsport Holiday Tournament. Hammondsport defeated Avoca and Dundee.

WAYNE COUNTY: Olivia Suhr of Marion. Sophomore forward Suhr averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and six steals while helping Marion win the Wayne Holiday Tournament. She was named to the All-Tournament Team.
