Description
The Doug Westcott Memorial Scholarship
Doug Westcott loved his chosen profession. As a physical education teacher and Athletic Director, he derived much satisfaction from his career. He loved working with youths, and spent endless hours beyond his profession as a volunteer for Section V, serving both the football and basketball committees. The last fourteen years of his life found Doug as a most capable leader the Section V Boys' Basketball Tournament Committee. His sudden passing in November of 1999 left a void not only on the committee itself, but on the community he loved and the sport he loved. This scholarship will preserve the memory of a man who wanted the Section V Tournament to get better each year. It did, under his leadership. Now, Section V athletes will be able to receive financial help for continuing their education in Doug's memory.
The Doug Westcott Memorial Scholarship will be presented to a Section V Basketball player who is planning to attend a four-year accredited college or university for the purpose of majoring in either physical education, sports management, or another related field. It is sponsored by the Crane-Hogan Structural Systems of Spencerport, NY.
